About the Laboratory

The Visual Arts Laboratory is a space for those who want to develop their artistic thinking through painting, drawing, and experimentation with form. We’ll explore both classical and contemporary approaches — including expanded painting, object-based art, and working from life.

The focus here is not on achieving a “correct” result, but on an honest process: searching for your theme, medium, visual language, and means of expression, grounded in your personal experience and the context of contemporary art.

Structure of the Sessions

The course consists of eight meetings, each divided into two parts:
  • 1.5 hours of theory and discussion:
Analysis of your own and others' works, assignment discussions, readings and reflection, art history, and current practices. Expect many open questions: What are we doing? Why this way? How is it connected to what we feel and experience?
  • 1.5 hours of practice:
Working with materials, life models, and existing images; completing individual and group assignments. The emphasis is on the process and finding your own sense of “rightness”.

Methodology

We don’t work with templates — we foster the development of each participant’s individual artistic vision. The curators guide you in finding your personal form of expression and offer feedback at every stage of the process.
